About ATL BikePorn

We all have things we like to look at and pine after, right? Well I know a lot of folks in Atlanta that love looking at pretty, wonderfully designed, great bikes. I, for one, could be considered 'polyamorus' when it comes to two-wheel rides. Whether it's a 60's Fuji, a brand new custom fixie, or a mountain bike with crazy shocks, I think there's something awesome about all of them.

Send your own sexy bike pictures to atlbikeporn@gmail.com, and you could be featured!

(And, I'll just state the obvious, BikePorn is not about actual porn. It's about bikes. Thanks.)

Hot Bikes for a Cause

This morning was the 6th annual Georgia Rides to the Capital, and it was fantastic! Two groups came to downtown, one riding in from Decatur the other making the 21 mile trek from Roswell. Everyone came together to encourage our state legislature for better biking legislation. I mostly showed up to take pictures. Check 'em out!

You Know What's Hotter than Riding Bikes?

... riding bikes AND lobbying the state legislature is hotter than riding bikes! And that's exactly what we'll be doing next Tuesday, March 22! Check out the Georgia Rides to the Capital website for all the details. There's also a Facebook event.

While we're talking about cycling advocacy, I have to give a shout out to Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, because frankly they're pretty awesome and they've got some great stuff going on this spring! They're currently working on the Bike There! Bike Rack Project, which encourages installation of more bike racks around town to provide safe bike parking and encourage us to ride more often. They are conducting a preliminary survey, and you can win Gorilla Sack bag for taking the survey! Scroll to the middle of this page to take the survey!

Also, this past Friday kicked off ABC's first "Mobile Social" ride, and it was freakin AWESOME...

Great Bike Find on Craigslist

One of the most satisfying things in the world: rescuing a fantastic vintage bike from the hands of a weirdo redneck, via Craigslist. My friend Cameron did just that a few weeks ago, and man! He scored big time! Check out this vintage German-made Sears bike that he got for a steal - $80!

The Adventures of Delilah, Ep. 1

If y'all hadn't figured it out already, there is absolutely no reason not to be out on your bike these days. The weather is amazing (by contrast - it snowed in San Francisco and Burbank yesterday...) and most of the remnants of Snowpocolypse are gone. As such, I took my trusty red rider out for an adventure today. In the course of the afternoon, she was officially named - Delilah. Love it. Read about our trek through town after the jump... and if you have your own adventure to share, send me pictures and a write-up!

Creative Parking

My buddy Cameron always keeps an eye out for hot bikes while he snaps fashion photos around the city. Today he encountered quite the interesting way to park one's two-wheeled friend. I'll let the picture do the talking...

And in a Creepy Twist of Karmic Fate...

... I was hit by a car (while walking) soon after posting about bikers getting hit by cars. I am COMPLETELY fine, I promise. The car was turning right at a stop sign and didn't look to see me on the sidewalk/in the crosswalk on his right. He was going maybe 1 mph, and I basically scooted myself out of the way, but there was full car-on-Fiona contact. Pretty scary. But more to the point, it was yet another reminder Atlanta drivers seem not to be aware of non-vehicular traffic. How can we do more to make drivers aware?
